SeeFit: Road to the Cure 2012
Day Four

We all slept a little uneasy leading into day four, knowing what the next day held in store for us - a WOD at a Marietta, GA fire station in the predicted 106 degree record heat. We were greeted warmly (pun intended) by the crew on duty and many others who were off duty and came in just to meet and support SeeFit. The Mopsick family showed up with a big group of their friends and we were all briefed on what was about to go down.

We’d be completing “Blitz,” their benchmark WOD and we were going to get geared up in 50 pounds of fire suit including a tank, gloves, and helmet…

Needless to say, we were all a little nervous. Doing a WOD by itself is hard enough, now add the element of a full fire suit and 105 degree weather and we weren’t just sweating from the heat trapping suit…

After about an hour of running through waves of the team individually completing Blitz, it was all over. Brutal. The heat normally generated by your body gets trapped in the suit from head to toe, so at times it’s almost overwhelming enough to stop you in your tracks. But after everyone was fairly recovered, we were able to run through their training obstacle course, and then to our surprise treated to a HUGE breakfast cooked by the squad on duty.

All in all, we couldn’t possibly have asked for more. It was a good change of pace from the typical CrossFit box, we met a ton of great people, and the kids had a blast, running around and through the obstacle course in their plastic fire hats and sticker badges.

The night took us into the city and onto the Georgia Tech. campus. After an awesome dinner at Publik, we met and socialized with a few on campus fraternities and sororities. We decided to make it an early night in preparation for our team competition at CrossFit Atlanta the next morning. Check back in to see how we almost missed it!
